Transforming Standards-Based Teaching: Embracing the Teaching and Learning of Science as Inquiry in Elementary Classrooms
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to utilize a case study approach to demonstrate how to transform a ‘hands-on’ science unit into an inquiry-based learning experience. Specifically, the researchers will examine the results of the data analysis and identify the most useful techniques/strategies for developing inquiry-based science experiences in the elementary classroom. Evidence to support the use of inquirybased teaching and learning to fulfill state and national standards will also be addressed. Finally, the researchers will use specific data from the research to provide concrete examples and suggestions for planning and implementing inquirybased science experiences.
